| | Inspiration
For this scene, I wanted to try and recreate the desk in my room, as well as other elements of my bedroom. I wanted to try and create the most realistic setting possible and keep the amount of objects to a minimum so the scene isn't cluttered. I chose my desk because I like the way it looked and I thought it would be an interesting challenge trying to model it, especially with the flourescent light built into it. I like the way the floorlamp lit up my room so I chose that as the primary light source. I thought that by keeping the ambient light low, it set an interesting mood for the scene, because my room tends to be dark a lot. I thought that by putting all the objects in the corner would look the best, especially the floorlamp.

| | Problems and Solutions
The biggest problem for my in this scene was getting the lighting and shadows correct. For the flourescent lamp, I used a linear light source to light up the desktop. That was fairly trivial. The floorlamp was more difficult. I put a bright point light right in the center of the cone, but it took a while to adjust the lampshade's transparency and translucency so that would be let through to the rest of the room. I also found that turning on radiosity yielded a much more realistic look to the shadows in the room. By modifying the built-in surface presets in Lightwave, I was able to creat the textures you see for the glass, walls, floor and floorlamp.
