| | Inspiration
Inspiration for this project didn’t so much come as it was created, I sat down and sketched out several desks in Photoshop and started modeling after I had a fairly clear idea of what I wanted everything to look like. I’ve included my concept sketch, and its interesting to see what sorts of things get modified, elaborated on, and hacked out entirely. Over all the scene turned out pretty much out how I had pictured it from the get go.

| | Problems and Solutions
My biggest problem was getting light to realistically move through water, in a glass object. This rendering nightmare was particularly prevalent in my scene because of my choice to use a fish tank as a lamp. At 5 minutes per rough render I firmly believe that the only way this scene was completed was that I was able to keep my polygon count to a manageable level by creating most of the objects point by point. Beyond the issue with the glass most of my time was spent fine tuning texturing and lighting. Reference: http://www.robinwood.com this web site provided a very helpful reference on glass objects. | |
