Jon Ballard Desk Scene
 A Day Away...someday
Inspiration

I wanted to create a scene that represented my frustrations with being cooped up inside when where I really want to be is outside.  Everyday I find myself being stuck inside doing work.  All the while the days pass into nights, and I find myself looking into them wondering where the days have gone.

Problems and Solutions

This is a scene of a desk, with very few items to represent the absolute bordom I can get when there is such a wonderful world to enjoy just beyond the walls.  None of the walls are touching eachother which I think helps to show the breaking down of the walls, metaphorically.  I really like how moonlight looks when it pours through a window so I thought it would be really neat to represent that.  It was a lot easier than I had anticipated to get the lights to look how I wanted them to.  The biggest problems I had were with the candle, I started to get a little too intricate on the detail of it, then I started to realize that from far away the tiny details I was doing just wouldn’t really show up too well, so I got rid of those, and just made the basic shape of the candle.  I played mostly with textures, I really wanted to figure out how to get those down.  The biggest problem that I had was with water, I wanted to put an enormous ocean underneath the room, and have it all floating on water, but I could never get something that I really liked, the tutorials I had gone through just didn’t look right to me, so I decided to scratch that idea, and I just went with a basic grass texture preset from lightwave.  There weren’t really a whole lot of problems, nothing major, just the basic getting to know a new program hold-ups here and there.
