Inspiration

Clayton saw Lindsey's drawings of dragons in her sketch book. Clayton then asked the group if they would want to do a dragon scene. Lindsey then said she would draw a dragon and Clayton said he would come up with a knight. The other group members then agreed that this would make a great scene.

Problems and Solutions

Lindsey:

The hardest part, for me, of this project was simply starting out.  I read 2-4 tutorials about how to model organics before I ever turned Lightwave on.  While these helped point me in a direction, I found that they were either overly technical or badly written.  I ended up skimming them more than actually reading them. Instead I took a little bit from each to come up with a more easily understandable (again, to me) way to model what I wanted (as I will attempt to explain in my tutorial, heh).  Texturing is still turning out to be my favorite part of the modeling process, though the rush of getting a cool model made is rather heady as well.  In regards to the dragon, I am happy with him, but I want to take him a whole lot farther.  UV mapping is what I'm planning on learning next, though it honestly scares me.

Clayton:

Well, the knight was a pain in the butt when I started making him. I put lots of detail into my first model of the knight. Then when I realized that he would only be seen from one side and also from a distance I redid the knight to make him render faster and use fewer polygons. Also I ended up doing the ground; Height Maps made making that short work to build but then took me time to texture the ground, and fire breath, which took all of an hour to learn how to do a good looking flame and another to learn how to modify it to what I needed. Overall I had fun doing the modeling and lighting/fog effects. Fog as I found out is easy to do once you figure out fog effect slider under the item property menu for objects.
