Ben Mitrovich Final Scene
 Beyond Armageddon
Inspiration

Well because I was so familiar with the ocean tutorial I wanted to incorporate that in my final piece, while trying to keep it fresh and new.  I saw a preview recently in the theaters that showed a city being overcome by a title wave and a shot of the after math.  I thought it was really cool how the buildings were sticking half way out of the ocean.  So I applied that idea with my knowledge of the ocean scene I already was familiar with.  But instead of day time I thought night time with stars and a moon would be a nice effect.  Then one day before class I was watching the movie A.I. which reminded me of my piece.  If you are familiar with the movie, aliens become about of the scene but in the movie the ocean and city are frozen over.  So I decided to add a UFO to my piece to add more to my story.

Problems and Solutions

lighting.  Lighting is so important and because my scene was at night it was hard to give it a realistic moon light effect.  Either the buildings where to bright or they were to flat when it came to color.  I tried all kinds of techniques but never was really satisfied.  I spent a lot of time on detail for each building but the detail was never really seen under the moonlight lighting.  I also had trouble with volumetric lighting.  For some reason it wasn't working with my scene.  It's was an important part because the UFO was projecting a image of an alien on the wall but with out volumetric lighting you can't really tell that the UFO is projecting it.  The other lights from the UFO weren't doing it either so I lost that effect of my piece.
