Kyoko Kubo Final Scene
 Treasure Hunting
Inspiration

This is a story of a girl from England. She loves archeology of Mediterranean Sea area. One day, she reads an old book about Constantinople City, and she find about a hidden treasure, which is not discovered yet. The treasure is hidden somewhere in an old Christian Church, which was later converted into a mosque.  Based on the information written, she travels Mediterranean sea area to find the church, and she will interfered by a group of people (bad guys) who also try to find the treasure. She finally finds the treasure, but it is stolen by them. This is the scene that she tries to catch the treasure that the bad guy throw inside the building to pass it to other guys. (The guy is not shown here)Will she get it? Or.

(The model of the church is Aya Sofia (or Aya Sophia) in Istanbul. The church was build in 548 and was converted to mosque in 1453.)

Problems and Solutions

Technical Problems

I faced too many problems. Skin texture! Bones! Hair!

First, I wanted to apply UV skin texture on the face skin, because I wanted to make the cheek red, so I thought UV mapping would be the best way. But! It didn't work. Simply, there were too many polygons to move, so I gave up. Then, I used simply textures that already exist in lightwave. I changed some settings, for example, I applied crumple procedure, and I change the size to very small (I guess it was 20mm x 20mmx20mm) and I got nice skin texture. I did same thing for bump map for the skin. I changed the color of skin by simply selecting few polygons on the cheek, and named differently, and then applied skin texture. After that, I went to surface editor to add reddish color. I added procedure image, and I mixed red color with the original skin color. It worked! And I got the human skin-like texture.

Bone!   This was pain. This is my first time created bones. In modeler, I created bones in different layer, but I kept them in different layer when I switched to layout.
So I had to select object, and I went to add bones, and converted skeletons to bones. For some reason, this process took while to understand, so I had to spend some time, but the book Inside LighWave helped me a lot, so that was simply a solution.

Hair! Ohhhh.. This was more pain. I used spline guide to create long hair, but it did not work. (And I haven't figure out why yet) I read lots of tutorials about Sasquatch, but it didn't work) I also tired to grow hair from head polygons, but the Sasquatch said that it can not read the shape of the object. Now, I don't have time, so simply I created polygon hair. I used sketch tool to draw every single hair, and converted polygons into two-point polygon. It's not a perfect hair, but it's better than nothing. I will work on sasquatch more later on

Problem Solution about Artistic aspect
(Character, Building, Time setting)

Character was difficult to build. Since she is supposed to love books and stuff, I didn't want to make her too sexy, or too ugly, so I took middle. I changed hair color, eye color, and lip color to get the personality. I did not apply eye shadow, which will make her too sexy. I made her cheek red, to enhance that she is excited.

Inside the building should look very dark, because I was imagining the building is something an old church looking one. Of course there is no light inside, so it should get light source only from outside the window. So, I had to change the building's wall color, texutre, and bump map to get the way I wanted. I also changed light intensity and color. I changed settings so mamy times that I spend a lot of time on making perfect wall.

Time setting is sometime before sunset because I thought it would enhance the scene. I didn't want the scene night, or noon. I thought sunset is more dramatic. Fortunately, I found a perfect image from google.com!
