Koichi Kamiguchi Final Scene
 Swimming Pool
Inspiration

For the final project, I wanted to create something big, not 5 meters by 5 meters scale but 100 meters by 100 meters. Also, I wanted the scene to be something meaningful and has strong impact to myself. And, the idea that I came up with is to create a swimming pool, not the small one like a school's swimming pool but the huge pool like the pool used for big competitions. Since I myself began to swim when I was just two years old and had been swimming for about 16 years, I tried to make this swimming pool looking back at my memory with swimming pools.

Problems and Solutions

The biggest problem that I encountered is how to create the realistic pool water. To create just water was not so difficult, but since this is an indoor swimming pool, reflection of the water needs to be dealt very carefully.

In fact, it took me so long to get the appropriate reflection on the surface of the water. And after that, I started to work on lighting, but then I just noticed that the lighting completely changed how the pool water looked like. Therefore, I ended up with the idea to work with the pool water setting, lighting, and rendering at the same time together.

This is really time-consuming. It no longer looks realistic water if I set just a little bit too much reflection on the water because that makes the water reflect everything inside the room. Moreover, too strong lights make the water too transparent and look no longer realistic water.

But anyways, I just held on to it and now feel kind of happy with the final result.
