Bruce Longacre Desk Scene
 Wacky Workspace
Inspiration

When I was younger, my mother was a preschool teacher.  Being a teacher, my mother always had books around.  One of my favorite books was in the I Can Read series, which included books by Dr. Suess and similar authors, was Wacky Wednesday by Theo LeBerg.  When I first started thinking of ideas for my desk scene, I wanted to think of something creative.  At the time we were looking at the cow during a lecture, and I thought about including that.  That is when my mind wandered toward the book Wacky Wednesday.  I started thinking about putting the desk on the ceiling, and thinking of other objects that could be in the wacky room.

The Rubix Cube came to me when I was testing out he array function.  One of my roommates graduated in the spring and they got mini-Rubix Cubes in their graduation packages.  I hate Rubix Cubes because I can't solve them.  I told my roommate to get rid of the mini-cube; so he went out and bought a full sized one from Toys 'R Us.

When it came to actually creating the desk and the other objects in the scene, I started looking around my desk at home and picking out objects to create.  Being an engineering student, and having it just be my nature, I wanted to make all the objects as real and accurate as possible.  I would get more satisfaction out of exactly replicating my desk space in my room than creating something artistic and original.  Exactly replicating my room is what I started to do when I was picking objects to make.  I wanted to make my eyeglasses instead of a drinking glass, which I found too difficult.  I also wanted to make my iPod that I always listen to, but again, for a beginner it proved to be too difficult.  So I stuck with objects that were easier to create within my time frame.

I was especially proud of the lamp, which is exactly what my lamp in my room looks like.  I was worried that the light bulb would be too difficult to create, but all it took was a little moving and stretching of a few polygons on a ball.  I thought I also did a good job with the texture of the lampshade and making it see-through enough to let the light and shadows I wanted to be created
