Cha Lee Desk Scene
Too Poor to Buy a Real Desk
Inspiration

The inspiration for this scene is pretty obvious.  When we were given this project, I realized that I didn't have a desk.  All I had was a coffee table in front of my couch.  That had been my desk for the past three years of college.  If you want proof, just look at how the shape of my back, a testament to all those nights of pouring over books.  Really.  So, this scene is basically how my living room looks like.  It's just a couch, a coffee table, and a lamp.

Problems and Solutions

The biggest problems I had were texturing and KEEPING THE POLYGON COUNT LOW.  I created many objects during this assignment.  I made countless bottles and glasses, but the polygon count was extremely high.  I'm still dissatisfied with the fact that I have to sacrifice quality for efficiency, but I learned a few tricks in keeping the count down to a minimum.  Don't use the lathe tool!  That produces the most number of polygons.  I was dependent on the Boolean tool.

I found out too late how important textures were too.  Creating my own textures is great, but making it look real was extremely hard.  I spent a lot of time reading and experimenting with the numbers.  In the end, I had to steal some textures from a website.  I hope to buy a digital camera and make my life easier in the future.
