Story:

The scene we attempted to recreate is from The Matrix.  It is the scene just after Neo takes the red pill and is extracted from the Matrix mainframe.  As he wakes up from the program he looks around to see thousands of battery cells containing other humans that are being used to power the machines that make up the Matrix.  We attempted to create the scene including the cells, robots, lightning and fog that are featured in the 3D scene in the film.

Problems and Solutions:

We ran into several problems as we worked through the scene.  Intimidation was the first major obstacle that we had to overcome.  Choosing the scene to recreate and which objects from the scene that we wanted to include in the scene was the cause of some stress at first, however we quickly worked it out and could get to work on the project itself.  Once we decided on the objects that we were going to create, finding tutorials and working out all of the details of the objects was all that was left to do.  Working through the tutorials and using a little bit of creative license proved effective in the final product, which we are rather happy with.  We found that working in a group on a project such as this, where everything must relate and fit together, can be a complicated and problematic task.  In the end everything turned out worth while, and the extra time that we could all put into each model definitely saved us time in the long run and benefited the final scene.

Texturing caused several problems in the creation of the lightning because the colors would not show up originally and the lightning would show up as black.  By increasing the number of sides and tweaking the settings the problems were worked out and the color finally turned out.  With the robot, experimenting with various tools and surfaces proved to be the most effective way to create something with a similar feel of the original robot that confronts Neo in the film.  We tried several different variations on the pod models before deciding on the model that we finally ended up using in the final scene.  Once we had one pod that we were happy with created, we simply cloned it several times to duplicate the intensity of the scene and the overwhelming size of the battery farm.  A final problem that we ran into was the size of the image, the amount of cells ended up causing problems in loading and saving the files.
