Inspiration/Story

Water is very amazing. Different condition of water can let you feel different. The water in the glass maybe let you feel thirsty. The water in the lake maybe let you feel peaceful. When you see the water in the storm, it must let you scare. My library is based on this to design.

A library has different area for different function. Usually, it has area for main collection of books, reading rooms, computer labs, offices, and meeting rooms. Basically, we can divide them by inactivity and activity. Like area for books, reading rooms and computer rooms are quiet. They belong to the area for inactivity. On the other hand, lobby and meeting rooms belong to activity. So I use water to create these two environments. Waterfall stands for activity. The lobby is under the waterfall; and the meeting rooms are face to it. The readings rooms and other areas will face the still surface of water.

Problems and Solutions:

I was trying to create the woods. And it did have tutorials for the create woods, but I can't find out the Plugin. I was trying to use two polygons and use transparence texture for creating tree. It works for one tree, and turns out very good result. But after I create some trees and move them to different places. But the texture has trouble; cause of the axis of texture will let the texture mixed up. At the end, I gave up to make woods. Instead of it, I use some trees and fog to create the environment.

The waterfall is based the tutorials online to do. (www.geocities.com) But it only showed me the water surface. So I have to change a lot of setting for my waterfall. Like I download the texture for Bump map and change some value of transparence, reflectivity and refractive. And I also use the magnet tool to make the water all more realistic.

In the scene of lobby, I will to create the feeling that you are under the water. So I use spotlight to project the water texture on the wall. I feel it works, how do you feel? Actually, in my case one spotlight is bright enough. I put 3 spotlights at the same place, two of them project the water texture, and one of them only creates the bright light.
