Inspiration/Story

The inspiration for this project comes from a couple of different sources. My interest and love for learning about and creating objects from ceramic materials was a major catalyst. The lathe tool in Lightwave reminded me of making pots on the throwing wheel. I thought it would be cool to have a studio full of different shaped pots, bowls, vases, etc., too bad I didn't have time to add those things. Also while working in 3D with clay and working with 3D on screen I ran into many of the same problems such as every angle of an object has to look right, scale, and the never ending battle of what I see in my head and what I have the ability to create. All in all I just wanted to create this studio because I know it's not very likely that I will ever have my own.

Problems and Solutions:

My main problem was time. I had a very hard time coming up with an idea that I actually had the ability to create, after trying several things I settled on the studio idea and ran with it.

Originally the room had a huge window on the wall that has the Picasso and Kandinsky prints on in but I had an impossible time creating an outside landscape that look believable. I tried several things, creating landscape inside a sphere using saslite and skytracer, I made two planes one with grass and one with sky, and also tried just applying a sky texture to a surface. As I said none of these looked right and because of the time constraint I just made a new wall and covered it with posters.

Finally, if you've ever been in a ceramic studio you know that they are never this clean, dust and clay are impossible to avoid. I decided to create my objects and add the dust and clay later but I ran out of time.
