Inspiration:

Old metal works has always fascinated me, especially medieval weaponry.  At first I wanted to have a lone sword in a display case in a roped section of a museum.  This didn't have enough of a story behind it so with the help of Dr. Steinback I was able to place the sword in a scene that could tell a story.

The scene is that of a museum curator's office, which contains a display case of a personal collection of medieval full and half swords.  Upon the desk there is a sword, which is of interest, testing its composition he comes upon an interesting find.  Off he goes to talk to the weaponry expert, everything left in mid thought.

Problems and Solutions:

There were two main dilemmas that I had in making this project.  The first was how I would approach creating sword hilts that were different enough from each other.  I found that just by making a simple shape, such as a cone, box, or disc, if I using the Bevel tool I could make very unique hilts.  One such hilt was from a sphere; it looked very strange, even so much that it appeared to not be functional for a real sword, so I had to scrap that idea.

The second problem arose within the final assembly of my project.  I noticed that as I moved an object around the way the texture was projected upon it would change.  It was most noticeable with the sheets of paper, where once the texture looked very real, by merely moving it several meters and rotating the page, the texture was projecting sideways and even repeated itself.  To fix this problem I had to go to Surface Editor, going to (not sure the name) tab and rotate the texture by 90 degrees, this help quite a bit, then I repositioned the page slightly so that the texture didn't repeat.
