Inspiration

Art is a medium used as self-expression, a portrayal of the author's perceptions and ideals.  My desk scene is a representation of my future work environment.  I figure my job (much like all forms of work) will include arbitrary labor behind a desk.  However, as an artist I have the ability to create a more serene and tolerable workspace.

Problems & Solutions

The image I have produced includes the necessary requirements: a desk, a cup, a light/lamp and a pencil.  I created the cup as a martini glass with the generic inside out glass texture (Lightwave).  The wood chair is does not look too comfortable for a nine to five work day, but it was the best depiction I could utilize.  The table is designed with the light wood texture (Lightwave).  I also used a similar wood texture called tweak wood for the chair (Lightwave).  The lamp was made in Modeler and contains a chrome texture (Lightwave).  The floor and walls were also made in Modeler and the floor's texture is a simple blue carpet (3D Café).  The wall's include a basic wallpaper texture (3D Café).  The picture of Marilyn Monroe was originally painted by Andy Warhol, and was used as a texture on an existing object on the wall (Google Image: Warhol).

I found that generally everything in this assignment to be challenging.  Specifically, I encountered a major difficulty detailing the glass.  I used three spotlights to further accentuate the features of the glass.  The first light I used in conjunction with the camera's location; facing above and in front of the glass.  The second light was placed on the side almost on the level of the glass. In collaboration with the first light the result is a shadow.  The last light was placed low and behind the glass to supplement existing background light.
