Inspiration

My initial inspiration was simply to get a desk that looked like one.  My first rendering was very dull with just a desk so I wound up creating a light box to accompany it.  I positioned the desk and the light box so that there was a big square space where they met.  I have always enjoyed watching my aquarium at home so I decided to fill that space with one.  I always loved the appearance of my room at night when only my aquarium light was on so I decided to try that effect in this scene.  I think it worked well.  The LCD monitor is there simply because I like the look of them.  Creating a keyboard seemed like a challenge so I tried it.  Its end result I felt was good enough to be included.  The wine glass and pencil were placed in the scene to satisfy the requirements.  The mouse padwell the idea for that was just plain random

Problems & Solutions:

The biggest problems I encountered came while using layout.  I had a great deal of difficulty figuring out how the lights and cameras worked.  When I tried imitating the tutorial that I used, things just got worse.  After some help from the instructor, I got a better grasp on things.

I often ran into problems when I used the boolean tool especially when subtracting. The boolean tool was always deleting or leaving parts of objects to view that I hadn't anticipated. The bevel tool gave me a hard time on the keyboard.  Until I got the surface normal right, I was always seeing sides and faces that I shouldn't.  Some problems were fixed with trial and error use of the tool.  For other problems, I wound up completely recreating the object.
