SPACE IN LOST

Inspiration:

My scene is a testament to how I feel whenever I sit down at a computer. And that's lost. The textures and features of the walls, floor, and desk are meant to represent the complete and utter emptiness, and inadequacy I experience behind the keyboard. The non-professional quality of the image really makes you want to scowl, which is of course, exactly what I was going for the whole time.

Problems & Solutions:

I had many, many problems. The biggest one was getting the space textures to face the right way. Finally I realized you had to change it in the surface modeler to whatever axis you want it facing. Most of the other problems had to do with lighting. I think because of the darkness of the textures on my walls, I couldn't tell easily if the shadows were coming up or not. The solution to that is just repetition. Keep moving them around until they look good. Most of the other problems had to do with not knowing the program very well. My hand was up more than anybody's.
