Inspiration:

When I approached this project, I wanted to do a desk that was original and creative and not like any other generic desk.  I looked around at different websites and couldn't find any ones I liked and then I started looking around my room and noticed that my desk in my room is odd and very cool looking.  After a while, I decided to do my desk and I was very excited about designing it.  Another reason I wanted to do my desk is that I could actually measure it and get the whole thing proportional and look normal.  If I would have gotten a picture from a magazine or the Internet, it would have been tough to get the measurements right

Problems & Solutions:

The first problem I had during this project was cutting out the shelves on the bottom right of the desk.  I studied my desk at home and tried to figure out how to cut them and make them proportional to the desk. Then I was fooling around with boxes and discs in Lightwave and remembered the pencil project and how we used the Boolean tool to subtract and intersect, which cut out a piece of the disc in the shape I wanted.  Another problem I had figuring out was how to use the lathe tool just right in order to produce a good glass and lamp.  I took about an hour of sketching and lathing in order to create the right lamp and glass and when I did, I was satisfied and relived that I didn't have to lathe anymore. Another problem I had was adjusting the light sources in layout and making sure my desk had enough light in the right areas so that it looked as realistic as possible.
