| Thomas Birge | Desk Scene | | What toys do in their free time |
|
|
Inspiration: My inspiration for this project was that recently the first two seasons of transformers was released on DVD so I have spent a lot of time watching both seasons because it's something that takes me back to my childhood and a time of great imagination and wonder.
Story: The story that I'm trying to tell with my rendering is that when people go to sleep they don't realize that their toys are really plotting against them and that one day or night in this case their toys are going to rise up against them and take up whatever weapons are at hand and then they will rule the world and we will all become the toys.

Problems/solutions:
One of the biggest problems that I had was ironically on a piece of the artwork that doesn't appear much in the rendering but which is the lamp which you can see in the upper right of the rendering. My problem with lamp was that I wanted to make the neck of it with a bunch of little ridges that were bendy so what I ended up doing was creating about a hundred or so little discs and the lining them all up at various angles using the rotate tool so that they made a perfect bend. Although it was time consuming it came out really well even though it doesn't appear in the rending. Also with the glass I had to go online and find a glass tutorial at http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/9315/lw/tip4.html which really helped me to get that glass look. Other than that the only problem that I had was creating the correct shapes for the transformers body but that was done most often by creating a box the right size of the body part and then just using the Boolean subtract tool to carve out the parts that I didn't want into the shape that I did.
