Inspiration:

All my life I have loved the Ocean.  I have loved the crashing waves and the salty, crisp smell of the air.  One of the greatest symbols of this is the lighthouse.  For my scene I wanted it to have an almost murky and cold feeling.  I decided that I wanted a wave crashing on the rocks below and have a little snow falling.  For this I had to learn some new techniques that almost made me change my mind on trying this scene.  I almost got the effect I wanted, if I had a little more time I believe that I could make the scene in to what I have seen in my mind's eye.

Problem & Solution:

Particles

I had a problem that when I placed a particle emitter in the scene I couldn't see the particles.  To solve this I learned you have to place a volumetric on the emitter before you render the scene.

Another problem I had was that the textures didn't repeat correctly.  They seemed to arch so to fix this I got read of the brick texture and put a completely random Procedural texture.  From a distance it looks like brick.

I wanted to make a grating for the walk way and to do this I didn't want to model it.  I decided to try to use textures.  I ended up using Alpha images and the honeycomb Procedural texture.  I used the inverse of it to alpha the transparency and make the holes
