Aztec Empire

Introduction

I have always been fascinated with my own culture and its history.  I was born and raised here in the United States.  Everything I learn about Mexico is a new experience.  As a child, I also dreamt of one day being an archeologist, out on the field, with brush in hand, dusting dirt of artifacts.

Objective

I took the chance to combine the two aspirations and live them out, vicariously, through 3-D computer modeling.  I combined the fascination of culture and archeology with the creation of my very own Aztec Empire.

Difficulties and Solutions

I had a hard time finding a good texture to fit my pyramids.  Many textures resulted in a grainy effect.  When I did try to add image map textures, I was not able to load the image; I believe it was in part to the computer I was using.  I, eventually, decided to use a preset texture, and adjusting the size of the sample to where the texture would enlarge and not make it look so grainy.  Another problem I encountered was not knowing or having the right plug-ins to make a realistic grass effect.  Finally, I was not able to find an easy way to make steps.  I tried using array.  In array, I tried using the jitter effect but did not find something that suited what I was trying to achieve.  Ultimately, I made one individual step, copied and moved the copy.  When a couple of steps were placed, I copied all those steps and stacked on top.

What would be done differently?

If I had the chance to redo this project, I would make an atmosphere.  I would add a sky.  Out in the sky, I would add a point light so it can look like a sun illuminating the scene in a glow of red.  A similar effect was attempted.  I would also try to find a better texture for my pyramids, so they can look more realistic.  Maybe, I would add some other building in the background.

Considering, I am proud of my results
