The reason I chose this topic is that I really like space scenes and wanted to do one with an asteroid. The idea of people living on one came from the realization that someday there will be too many people on Earth and we'll have to have other alternatives. I chose a pyramid for the main building to mix the old with the new.
The ships were borrowed from the last project our group did, Darkstar. It was originally called the garbage scow. The texture from the housing units came from that project too. It's the built in genericpanels texture. The pyramid texture I found online. The asteroid was textured using a bump map called hetero terrain which is also built in. I made all other objects and surfaces.

Problems and Solutions
The problems I had were that the star field our group used from the last project couldn't be sized down enough to use. Even sizing the other objects up didn't help. So I used a new star field I designed that didn't turn out as good. The asteroid took a long time to look random enough. The glass dome took a long time as well to get right. Getting everything the right size was definitely the biggest problem. That's one thing I've learned this semester is start with the right size from the beginning. It makes your life much easier. I also learned how to use images as textures. Since I wasn't the one that actually applied the textures on the last project, I didn't know the procedure. Now that I had to figure it out on my own, I'll never forget it. Boolean extract has also been one of my favorite tools in learning Lightwave and has seen extensive use on the last two projects.
