The Last Letter

I had never used Lightwave before I took this class, so it took a long time to complete this desk scene project. I read the book, and asked my friend who knows Lightwave very well about which tools to use.

I tried to make the project simple and make it look like a realistic room in a lonely and sad atmosphere.  I have 2 favorite parts of this scene. One is the picture on the wall. I put the texture of my dog to the frame. I created all objects except my dog's picture. Another part of my favorite is the red light from the fireplace. It made this scene more lonely and sad. I really enjoyed working with all the different shapes and colors that are evident in this scene; it was a good way for me to express my creativity and is a room I would like to spend some time in.

Problems encountered

This was my first experience with 3D computer modeling so I had many problems mainly due to lack of experience with Lightwave. Probably the most persistent problem was with surface normals  some surfaces were totally or partially inside out and sometimes this seemed to be Problems/Solutions:

I had a problem with creating the wine bottle. It was difficult to create the transparency but still include the liquid inside. When I first created the bottle, there was not enough transparency to be able to see the liquid. Even when I changed the amount of transparency in the Surface Editor window, the bottle still didn't look real.
The solution was to put texture of the glass to the bottle surface, then the bottle became more realistic and was shining by the light.

I had another problem with the light for the lamp. It took a long time to figure out why the light didn't show up even when I put the spotlight in the right place and it had the correct amount of luminosity and intensity.
The solution was that the light bulb was not transparent, so the light didn't shine through it.
