Rye JohnsonDesk Scene
The Dear John Scenario

The inspiration behind this project is a dark and mysterious scenario that leaves you guessing. There is no personal link between myself and the scene, I just felt like spicing up the assignment. The two empty glasses represent two lovers, but the words written on the paper could imply a contradiction.

I came upon many problems in creating the separate objects themselves, but what I really want to address is the problems lying within the scene itself. The first problem was that the fire got blocked from the floorboards when I added them to the scene. This was easily fixed by one of two ways. One way, cut out the hole in the floor (with a Boolean subtract or whatever). The other way was to re-create the floor in three separate parts, leaving out the hole. The second problem I had was that the fire was not enough light to light the scene. I solved this by adding an area light right above the fireplace at 50% intensity. The table was still not bright enough, so I added a third light (spot light) right above the table. I used this at only 15% so that it wasn't obvious there was a light there.
