Mariza HernandezDesk Scene
A Day at the Office

For my desk scene I decided to create an office theme.  I thought that this scene would have been a great opportunity for me to become more familiar with using the program and learn how to use the tools better, by making the furniture myself.  When thinking of a light source to put into my scene, I know that I wanted it to be something different opposed to a lamp or candle.  I thought that a window would follow the office scenery well as well as the requirement.  By having a window I was able to experiment with the image map, I decided to include an image map of cityscape buildings.  I choose this because I think that it gave the scene the effect of it being placed in a high floor of a building in a city.  My goal for this assignment was to have my desk scene look like an executive office in a large city, I think that the image map helped me establish that goal by placing the image of the building out side the window.  One of the reasons why I wanted to create an office scene is because I thought that it would be unique to do.  I knew that I did not want to do a desk that contained scenery of a school or a home, because I thought that it would not be different and used a lot.

My main problem with this assignment was working with light.  It was very difficult for me to find a place to position the area light (that was by the window), and to give it the effect of light coming in the window.  The reason why this was very difficult was because it affected the overall look on the wall.  The right wall became very overexposed when the light was not positioned right, also the texture on the furniture was very hard to see because it was too dark.  I finally figured out that the best way to show texture of the furniture and not overexpose the wall was to lower the density of the area light (placed by the window) and to include a spot light by the desk, so that the texture (wood) on the furniture would be seen.
