The Science of Intelligent Systems and Robotic Engineering

CSUC Mechatronics is Distinct

Mechatronics Engineering degree at Chico State, continues to be the only ABET accredited degree program in the US since 1998.

Mechatronics Engineering is the science of intelligent systems, where engineers integrate Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering to design, develop, fabricate, and test smart systems. These systems cod be taught to learn to improve their performance and become intelligent. A couple examples of intelligent robots are the Honda's ASIMO and the Google's robotic car.

Employers Seek Out CSUC Grads

Mechatronic Employers seek ABET accredited engineering graduates, as it ensures highly qualified candidates for employment. Chico State Mechatronic Engineering graduates, with an ABET accredited degree; generally start at $50K or more. The median Mechatronic salary for a fresh graduate may vary with the economy and the candidate's experience. They are employed for designing components or systems for automation. Following are some examples of employers of Mechatronic Engineering graduates. They are hired for several purposes including automation of process industries; in medical industries insin pump (i.e., diabetic patients); designing robots for law enforcement; designing, building, and testing autonomous flying machines for a various operations such as the ones flown in support of our soldiers in the gf and the automation of farming.

Mechatronic News

Automation has permeated a globalized world and embedded controllers are showing up in every industry. This cod be good news for graduating seniors looking for jobs. Mechatronics Zone is an online Journal that posts current jobs in the U.S. as well as noteworthy news articles.

Senior Projects

As a senior in Mechatronic Engineering one is required to produce a working proof-of-concept for a paying customer. The work is conducted in a team of three to four other seniors (cod be a team of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineers or Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineers and Manufacturing technologists) to design, develop, fabricate and test a system for an actual customer. The customers have paid anywhere from $5000 to $145,000 for their projects. Some of these cod be proprietary, but most are not.

Curriculum

The Mechatronic Engineering Curriculum cod be simply described as the marriage of the appropriate components of Mechanical and Computer Electronics. But the detailed Curriculum is constantly upgraded to keep our graduates current with the industries.

Other Programs

Other colleges and universities (in .pdf format) in countries throughout the world offer accredited degrees in Mechatronics; however, CSU, Chico continues to be the only accredited degree program in the US.
