pi

recently, a bunch of guys with a really good computer calculated over a 1,000,000,000,000 digits of pi. haven't we gome far enough? i calculated 500,000 digits on my computer. i was really bored. the first 5000 digits are behind this text. i used an arctangent formula i found in the joy of pi, which supposedly contains the first million digits of pi, but only the first 5 pages are correct! (less than 20,000 digits) but no one cares because you will never need 20,000 digits of pi for anything.
so why are we still calculating more digits?
