  • Primary DBA, UNIX and Windows NT & 2000 administrator for over 70 production Oracle instances nation-wide.

    Systems Software Specialist 4/1993 - 5/1997
    California State University (College of Engineering, Computer Science & Technology) - Chico, California

    One of a two-man system administration team responsible for developing and maintaining the College of Engineering computing infrastructure consisting of over 100 HP, Sun, and Silicon Graphics (SGI) servers, and several hundred PC and Macintosh desktops.  Responsibilities included environment planning, network design, installation and maintenance of: cabling, hubs, routers, servers, academic course software (compilers, CAD and database systems) and various system services (Sendmail, IMAP, POP, NFS, Apache, Kerberos). Developed software to improve administrative and system efficiency.  Grew system from 150 users to over 16,000 users while preserving exceptionally low maintenance cost requirements. Developed and tested backup and recovery procedures.  Managed rotating staff of 4-8 student assistants. Most frequent activities: Oracle software development in C using OCI and PL/SQL; Oracle database administration, tuning and sizing; operating system installation, upgrades, patching and tuning; software installation and configuration.
     
    Software Engineer 2/1992 - 8/1995
    Landacorp, Inc. - Chico, California Developed and designed interface engines to process and load data into our case-management system from various external data sources.  Developed case-management system reports for England’s National Health Service. Traveled to several National Health Service Hospitals installing and troubleshooting systems; teamed with client personnel during implementations; developed and ported C software to various UNIX flavors.  Worked closely with sales teams, project management and other technical staff to meet project timelines.
