Assignment Two: Two Parts
Due Date: Feb. 12,
Thursday, print out to bring to class and submit to Turnitin.com prior to class
By
now we have agreed upon your research area and are honing in on a topic for
your research paper. This assignment is to
make even more relevant the work you will be doing.
Part One: You are to search all web
resources (and other) available to you to obtain position/job announcements
that you would be interested in applying for.
These positions need to be as relevant as possible to your course paper
research topic area. You are to research
what a good and effective application cover letter and resume would
entail. You are to submit an application
cover letter and a resume for the position/job announcement that you
selected. Give the source and details of
the position/job announcement in your submission. We as a class will be reviewing each other’s
application cover letters and resumes.
When you bring your printed application to class, be sure you have
edited out your name and any personal information. Use “Chris Doe” as the name and a fake
address and other personal information should also be imaginary/created
so that individuals are not identified.
However, your qualifications should be real.
At
our Feb. 12 class meeting will break into small groups be playing the role of
interviewer/evaluators for the positions and give feedback on our applicants’
materials and interview skills.
Part Two: You will use the online research
capabilities you learned about last week to select a particularly relevant
JOURNAL article that you have judged will be a relevant reference for your
final research project for this class.
That is, the paper must be particularly relevant to your topic and
subtopic areas for your final deliverable for the class.
For
this assignment, you will be giving a much more thorough assessment of the
reference, as though you were an actual referee for this journal article. Critique this journal paper on all relevant
components. Also, as a separate
component, demonstrate your understanding of the reference and what you learned
from the reference. Be sure to give
terms you were familiar with and those that were new to you. Include in your writings what background you
had that was beneficial to you and what subtopics you had to do further
research on to thoroughly understand the paper.
Conclude, as a separate issue, how this paper will be helpful to you in
your research. I.e. is this providing a
foundation or an idea for further exploration?
