Thursday, print out to bring to class and submit to Turnitin.com prior to class
Details: Go to the links on the CSUC Portal Home Page
and in the lower left hand column you should see a section titled “Student
Links” with a category of “Library Research”, take the Computer Science link
and then the IEEE link. You also have
access to the “Library Research” link on
your course home page in Vista.
In class on January 29 we used the search facility
inside the IEEE site to find the following two articles in Conference
Proceeding for you to review and critique:
Please note: Since some of you had
difficulty logging in to the Research Station at the library, I have provided
the full texts of the two papers below at these links
1. Automatic
Performance Diagnosis Paper
2. Distributed
Computing in Wireless Networks
3. Automatic Performance Diagnosis for
Changing Workloads in DBMSs

Time and
Energy Complexity of Distributed Computation of a Class of Functions in Wireless
Sensor Networks
Found in: IEEE
Transactions on Mobile Computing
By Nilesh Khude , Anurag Kumar , Aditya Karnik
Issue Date:May 2008
pp. 617-632
We consider a scenario in which a wireless sensor network is formed by randomly
deploying $n$ sensors to measure some spatial function over a field, with the
objective of computing a function of the measurements and communicating it to
an operator station....
For these two articles, you are to use the
techniques as described in Chapter 12 of your textbook and any other online or
printed references you can find to review and critique these two conference
articles. Develop a list of criteria as
to how you are rating the articles (you can use the rubric for evaluating written
technical work and even enhance this rubric with some more criteria) and come
up with a rating table for each of the articles for purposes of comparison and
contrast. Finally, write a paragraph for
each article summarizing its contribution, strengths and weaknesses. Conclude your assignment by writing a
paragraph that gives your justification for why one article is better written
and more of a valuable contribution than the other.
Be
sure to print out a copy of your review of the two articles and bring it to
class on Thursday evening, February 5 at 5 pm.
Also, you should have submitted your assignment online some time prior
to attending class.
Also,
be sure to fill out the online survery prior to class on Feb. 5.
Additionaly,
come with a sheet of paper with your top three ranked topics/areas for the Feb.
5 class.
