Syllabus/Course Requirements

Fall 2010 – CSCI 101

 

Course Title: Introduction to Computer Science

Course Description: Students who have had limited experience with computers should take CSCI 101 before CSCI 111. CSCI 101 provides an overview of the fundamentals of computer science. Number systems and data representation are introduced. An overview of hardware, including the control unit, memory, the ALU, and I/O is provided. Software is introduced with an overview of operating systems, programming languages, applications, and software tools. Students are exposed to common operating systems and applications. Students also design and implement several programs.

Plagiarism/Cheating Policy:  Students who are in violation of the University’s policy on academic honesty and integrity will be reported to the Campus Student Judicial Affairs.  Such violations included cheating on exams and other course work aka plagiarism or copying of another students work.  Signing a role sheet for a student who is actually absent from the course is another such violation.  Anyone who as determined by the instructor has copied any part of another students work will be reported to Student Judicial Affairs and will automatically receive a grade of "F" for the course.  Anyone cheating on an exam, as determined by the instructor will receive a grade of "F" for the course.   Any student altering the answers on an exam after it has been graded will receive an "F" for the course.  Anyone signing the attendance sheet for a student not in the course will receive an "F" for the course.  Anyone passing information on any exam to another student will receive a grade of "F" for the course.

Course Assignments:

There will be lab exercises assigned on a weekly basis.  Students will need to demonstrate completion of these exercises by a means to be determined by your instructor.

Policy on Turning in Lab and Homework Assignments:   Due dates are firm.  No late assignments will be accepted unless serious illness or other excused absences merit allowances in the judgment of the instructor.  In all cases, you must notify the instructor prior to the actual absence from class via email.

Grade Evaluation Procedures:  Students will be graded based on their performance in the following course components -

First Assignment: Read Chapters 1-3 for next class.
