Steps to sign up for a Live or Archived Distance Education Class-

  1. Contact Continuing Education at 530.898.6105 or visit their web site at http://rce.csuchico.edu/online/site.asp
  2. Let them know that you want to sign up for a distance course.  They will let you know what paperwork needs to be completed and what fees need to be paid.
  3. You will need to go to the WebCT home page at CSU, Chico : http://online.csuchico.edu
  4. When on this page choose to "Create MyWebCT".  You will be asked for information.  Use your first initial and your last name as your WebCT ID.  Choose your own password, of course.
  5. Now go ahead and login to WebCT with your new WebCT ID and password.
  6. Your next step is to click on the Add Course link and you will then be presented with a list of Course Categories.
  7. Choose the Computer Science Category and then choose the course you want.  The course must have a "black key" beside it in order to allow self registration.
  8. Once you have added the course, you will have a new link on your home WebCT page to that course.  You can take this link to enter the course and all of it's features will be available to you, including the archived sessions or if applicable, the live class sessions.
  9. The next steps are relevant if you are taking an Oracle course, or a course that requires an Oracle Manual (such as CSCI 311 : Object-Oriented Analysis and Design for Spring 2001), or Software CD-ROMS.

    a. Contact Dr. Stapleton via email at mjstapleton@csuchico.edu and let her know which course you are taking.  If you need an Oracle manual, she will let you know how to obtain it.

    b. If you are taking an Oracle DBA or SQL, PL/SQL Programming course then you will receive a software CD or CDs.  If your are taking the Oracle 8i DBA course or the Introduction to Oracle:SQL and PL/SQL Programming then you will receive 2 CDs.  Follow the links off our your course web pages for complete installation instructions.  For either course you will not only install the Oracle software, but you will be installing a curriculum that includes Labs, Demos, and Solutions to the labs.  There are numerous scripts that you will be running to create certain databases and database conditions.  These are essential to the success of the course.  Again, follow the links related to your course off of my web page for the specific installation instructions for your course.

    c.  If you are taking CSCI 311 then you will be receiving a Rational Rose CD.  Instructions for installation are off of my course notes pages for CSCI 311.

I wish you a fulfilling learning experience in whichever course you have chosen!  Be sure to let me know via email whenever I can be of assistance!

Best Regards -

Dr. Stapleton
