At California State University, Chico, you are admitted to the Computer Science graduate program on the basis of your performance on prior academic work, as determined by your transcripts and letters of recommendation.

If you are an International student and do not speak English as a first language, you must also submit TOEFL scores.

If you have a BS in Computer Science, you may be admitted as a "classified" student. If you have graduated with a degree in another discipline, you may be admitted as "conditionally classified" or "not classified".
Students who wish to become "classified" must take a number of prerequisite classes. The basic set of classes that are generally required are as follows:
You will be given a placement test in object-oriented programming. If you have not had substantial experience in programming, you will be encouraged to take the CSCI 111 and CSCI 112 sequence before attempting CSCI 311, which often proves to be more challenging than many students expect it to be.
If you are seeking financial assistance and are a California or US resident, you may find assistance here.
If you are an International student, you will find a discussion of finances here.
Some practical advice about being a Student Assistant:
Although financial aid is often not possible, any student may qualify as a student assistant. Such positions are not awarded according to need, but are filled by individual professors. Because performance is the determining factor, faculty generally do not hire students unless they are familiar with their classroom performance. This means that you must seek employment from the faculty from whom you have taken classes.
If you are coming to the US for the first time, you may wish some additional assistance with the rules imposed by the Department of Immigration, information about the cost of living and how to get in touch with other International students. The International Student Services Office is a good source of such information. Click here to look at their page.
