| | Class Description: APCG 340 is a beginning to intermediate, project based, animation class that utilizes industry standard 3D software to produce digitally animated images. Our focus at the beginning of the semester will be on learning the basic components of layout in LightWave 9.3 as well as demonstrating an understanding of animated concepts such as timing, readability and weight through various exercises. Also we will focus on the principles of animation and how they apply to current computer animation techniques. As the semester progresses we will reinstitute our understanding of these concepts into character based animation and test our applications. This class emphasizes both creative and technical skills.

| | Required Supplies/Reading: 1) A USB Data Drive, also know as jump drives or flash drives, with a minimum of 1 GB. It is HIGHLY SUGGESTED that you back up your assignments from your USB Data Drive on a CD or your own home PC weekly and even daily if possible! The computers in the lab are equipped with CD burners for your convenience. Always keep your files backed up!
2) A sketchbook is required for this class. Your sketchbook is expected to be with you AT ALL TIMES. It is the fastest way to communicate visual ideas to me and your fellow peers. 3) BOOK - "The Animator's Survival Kit" By Richard Williams Faber and Faber ISBN 0-571-20228-4
4) Students should have a valid and active e-mail account.
Grading Policies:
Grading policies will be discussed in lecture.
Absences, Excuse Policy and Late Work:
Late: Industry deadlines are very real and do not involve extensions. Consequently, the same philosophy will be implemented in the classroom. All assignments are to be completed and turned-in by the due date and time. No late assignments are permitted with the exception of university policies regarding documented illness or emergencies. Revisions: If an assignment has been turned in on time, a revised version may be submitted for consideration of a possible grade increase. Turn-in Directories: Turn in formats and instructions will be covered in class. Turn in directories will be posted on the website as they are formulated. File Naming (example): AssignmentName_Lastname_Firstname (ie. Physics_Pozzi_John) If you find you have turned in an assignment prior to the due date and you need to update the file on the Faculty Workspace you must change your filename to the following: AssignmentName_Lastname_Firstname1 Lab Policies: Students will be able to access the computers M - F from 8am to 5pm and often later (It depends on how late a class runs in that lab). Policies will be discussed by me on the first day of lab. | |
