Pieces of Things ASSIGNMENT
PURPOSE:
COMPOSITIONAL GUIDELINES:
PRODUCT
| | - The problem with seeing is that we rarely give objects a second thought. When we first enter this world we pay attention to everything we see, because everything was new and interesting. Door knobs, pebbles, leaves were once interesting things for us to look at. Eventually these things became trivial, so we learned to ignore them. As photographers we tend to make snapshots of what appeals to our casual habit of seeing. This exercise is intended to rekindle your awareness of the many things that can be photographed.
- Photograph parts of things in a visually interesting way. Don't limit yourself to conventional subjects. Have you ever photographed a washcloth, a tub, a tree root, a pile of leaves? Why not? Edward Weston found "beauty" in a bell pepper. Irving Penn found it in gum. Look at the shape, color, light and cast shadows and compose it in an interesting way.
- You must shoot at least 60 exposures and turn in all exposures without cropping.
- Distance from subject matter should be no longer than 2 feet (Length of an arm).
- Make 2 final images (one B&W and one color image).
- Make 1 final print.
