Problems-Be Aware

Teamwork incorporated into the business cycle is becoming a promising trend, but it does not go without conflict.  Teams must operate within a larger organizational framework.  The groups though self-managed, are still influenced heavily by the company.  The company's main objective is to meet deadlines effectively.  Pushing from the top can add immeasurable stress onto groups.  With the added pressure of company policies and deadlines team members will lose their sense of teamwork.  When stress levels are high individualism takes precedence over the team concept.

Self-managed teams of the business world also face the common conflicts any team or group faces.  Conflicting roles and personality differences are always a factor.  Group dynamics (see page #) are critical even at this stage in-group orientation. Confronting the conflicts and reaching for the common goal of the company help to reduce these hindrances.  Though conflict will always be present, it is the hope and desire of TQM implementation that the company's interests will prevail.
"When stress levels are high individualism takes precedence over the team concept."
