Group dynamics are becoming an increasingly important aspect of work. Group work is being used in increasing fashion in many settings.  Many colleges are having students doing more group work to better prepare them for a future work setting in which they will likely be doing a significant amount of work in groups.
To have an effective group, the group must be stable and able to work together.  Even though the potential for great ideas to come out of a group project is attractive, poor group dynamics can leave the project in shambles.

It is important for a group to be cohesive.  Group cohesiveness does not mean absolute uniformity in all group members` ideas on the subject at hand.  In reality, it is detrimental to the group and the group`s goal if all members immediately agree on everything.  This is called “groupthink” and generally leads to bland, uninteresting ideas and products.

In a group it is important to have some conflict.  This conflict should not, however, be so great that it tears the group apart.  Without conflict and the resolution of said conflict the group`s level of innovation will become stagnant and result in poor outcomes.
