CyNdI'S AdVeNtUrEs
One of my favorite things to do is travel. This past summer I did
quite a bit of traveling. Here are some of the fun places I
visited... Hopefully my schedule will allow me to travel throughout
the year.. Yeah Right! But as
they say "If there's a will, there's a way. Who knows.. I maybe
visiting a town near you soon =)
Los Angeles and surrounding area, June 28 - 30 1996
My friends Ron, Nokie, and Thajii accompanied me on this trip. We
took my no air-conditioning Ford Tempo (Lez juz say it was really
really hot) to attend a couple of parties and do some sightseeing in
the South Land =) It was Nokie's first time down there so we did da
tourist stuff and had a great time. It took about 7 1/2 hrs to drive
each way.... but that was part of the fun =)
The first party we attended was put on by #manila ppl at a club in
Glendale. After about a half an hour of crusing up and down the
street we finally found the place (Thanks Sportzy for the great
directions *wink*) Met a few of the #manila irc people and did a lil
bit of dancing. Unfortunately it was already 1:30 AM so we didn't
get to get too much dancing in =) So we headed towards our hotel in
Buena Park and crashed for the night
The next day we went on a driving tour of Anaheim, Buena Park, and
Cerritos in search of a mall. We finally found one after an hour of
driving in the heat (GeEz does driving seem to be the theme here
*heehee*). We hung out at the Cerritos mall for a bit and did some
shopping. Being that we are poor college students we mostly juz
cruised the windows. *heehee*
We then headed to Anaheim to pick up my friend Patricia (PnTBuTtEr)
and headed towards Huntington Beach to attend Anna's (Chaquita)
birthday party. It was late in the afternoon, the sea breezes
wafting thru the air. We walked along the beach and hung out with
the Pomona crew of irc'ers. Then we lounged while watching the
California sunset color the horizon.
That night we went to a club called "Metro" in Riverside. It was a
huge club with three different dance floors featuring West Coast
house, Euro House, and hip hop. We hooked up with Jonathon
(Talldude) and his friend and enjoyed the beats. It was quite
interesting seeing the different styles of *ahem* dancing
*wink**wink* going on... some of it should be taken to da
bedroom *heehee*
The next and final day in the South Land, we decided to go to City
Walk which is beside Universal Studios in Universal City. It is a
shopping center with a 20 screen movie theater, many different
stores (including UCLA spirit and GLOW), and some great restaurants.
We had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe and went shopping for souvenirs.
Lemme juz say my wallet was a lot lighter by the time we were done.
After taking cheesy tourist like pictures, we headed back on the
road back to Chico.
San Diego #Manila Picnic July 12 - 14, 1996
I made this trip with mah buddee Thajii, in his messed up car (no brakes
and no speedometer needle *sheesh*) We started out of Chico kinda a late
and we made a lil pit stop in COmpton to visit Thajii's Family (Yes I
survived *wink*) We arrived in San Diego at 2:30 AM and find out our hotel
room wasn't held for us... so we spent the night on the beach (well in da
car in da beach parking lot.. Ai-ya!)
Anyways the next day after getting some rest in our hotel room (thank
goodness I was able to get reservations for Sat *heehee*) We headed to
Mission Bay to hang wif da irc'ers from #manila (Efnet). It was great
finally meeting the ppl behind the nicks... after rollerblading and
getting our grub on we chilled on da beach underneath the stars... by a
blazing bonfire....
Tucson and Phoenix Arizona July 31 - August 5, 1996
Another road trip wif mah buddee Thajii... (surprised we didn't kill each
other yet) I was attending an Asian Pacific American conference sponsored
by ASIA (Asian Students in Action) and CACA (Chinese American Citizens
Alliance) at the University of Arizona. It was one heck of a long
drive.... 15 hrs to be exact *sigh*. Thajii dropped me off at the dorms
(very plush accomodations *wink*) then he headed to Phoenix to visit his
cousins. I spent the next 3 days in "Success thru Introspection"....
attending workshops dealing with finding ones inner strength and issues
facing the Asian Pacific American Community. It was very very enlightening
and helped me understand that we are all in this together. I made some
great friends and strengthened some old ones *wink**huggaz*. At the end of
mah visit I realized that in those moments with everyone sharing their
experiences... I learned more about myself.
To all da ppl dat attended the conference.. juz wanna give mah shouts out
to ya all and much love and success to all of you!!!
Los Angeles (Family Trip) August 11- August 14, 1996
This trip was taken wif my entire family (well except mah lil sis Diane
who was working) Imagine a van packed wif 3 kids (under the age of 10) My
parents, my brother and my brother in law. My older sis and I were in my
car hauling all the gear (With no A/C in my car.. the trip was quite
enjoyable .... NOT!!!)
The kids went to Knott's Berry Farm the first evening with my sister and
her husband, while I chilled in mah hotel room.. running up mah phone bill
(Hi ate SaRaH!*heehee*) Then we headed to Disneyland and spent bank on
food and stuff (Ai-ya!)Gosh it's so great to be in the happiest place on
earth and be charged $2.50 for a hotdog *sigh**heehee* The next day we
went to Universal Studios which was pretty kewl.. until my dad, my elder
sister, her husband and I got stuck on Jurassic Park for 30 mins (it ain't
kewl to be chillin at a 45 deg angle *heehee*)
Our final day, I took my mom on a scenic tour Irvine and the surrounding
area (okay so I got lost *heehee*) While my daughters anjoyed their last
day at Disneyland.. gosh so much family bonding *heehee* We had a pretty
uneventful trip back to Vallejo
