Regarding GE:
Whether or not GE units are needed depends on where the student's bachelor's degree is from:
First degree from
CSU campus- GE, Hist/Govt, Cultural Div all considered complete
Regionally accredited institution in the U.S. - GE, and Cultural Diversity considered complete, Hist/Govt requirement needed courses can be used from first degree
Recognized university outside of the U.S. - Must have GE areas A2 and A4, an area B course, 2 area C courses, 2 area D courses and except for A2 these can be used from 1st degree, Cultural Diversity not required, Hist/Govt required
9 GE is not required of 2nd baccalaureates, completion of a theme is not required. These are actually separate requirements.
It happens that most transfer students complete the 9 units of GE in residence with their Theme courses, but they can, for example: complete Area C here and theme B with courses taken at Humboldt and complete the GE residence requirement.
None of this is ever as straightforward as it seems, so I encourage you to call or email if you have questions.
