To run Visual Works on the HP's, you need to have the following path in your PATH variable (this is where visualworks resides here in Chico):
Once your path is set up, you can start visual works with the command:
The parameter is the startup image file. It is basically the configuration for the setup. I would NOT suggest saving your own configurations, since the files total about 7M/config. Instead, you can save through "file-out" or through the tool itself.
Note page 14 in the Tutorial (i.e., you have created an image in a new location); you need to set the Sources to /usr/eng/visual/image/visual.sou (Note that page 14 does not have the eng subdirectory mentioned)
Similarly for the Help "documentation directory", it is in /usr/eng/visual/online
Change the Setting for Changes (same place under
File --> Settings as Sources) to your own directory path with file name
tutorial.cha
(Not doing this would make
you keep getting errors whenever you try to do anything in the workspace.)
Same as above except the directory is /opt/vwave everywhere where HP is /usr/eng/visual (e.g. you need to set the Sources to /opt/vwave/image/vwave.sou)...and the .profile needs to have
Currently I have these at /user/faculty/amk/www/foo/csci222/GT/image in case they are not moved off of Expert
Similarly for the Help "documentation directory", it is in
/user/faculty/amk/courses/csci222/vwave/online (was /opt/vwave/online on expert)
To download VisualWave for a PC: the zip file You should be able to download the GT image from http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~amk/foo/csci222/GT/image/GT-PS.im (or copy from /user/faculty/amk/www/foo/csci222/GT/image/GT-PS.im)
Install (the I386 directory worked for me on Windows)
To start Visual Works on Windows 95 platform:
Double-click the Visual (or VWAVE.IM) document in the Image folder in the
VisualWorks installation folder (typically called Visual).
To start the standard image on other Windows platforms (2000):
Double-click the VisualWorks program-item icon in the
VisualWorks 2.5 program group in the Program Manager. (Or the VWAVE.IM document in the image directory)
On Windows XP, I received the following information.
You can save your work from the Systems Browser or
Hierarchy Browser by doing a
If not on an HP machine, you should be able to run it from an HP
using your UNIX machine as an X-terminal.
NOTE: VISUALWORKS "COOKBOOK" DOCUMENTATION IS ONLINE
