Wildcat Account and migration

Some of you had ECT accounts in the past. When they created the wildcat accounts, you might have been automatically migrated.

You will know that this has happened to you if you went to OCNL 136 and tried to get an account, and the machine said that you already have one.

From a UNIX machine, someone can see that this has happened to you if they type the command

finger yourusername
and they get back information, one line of which is
Shell: /bin/migrated

What you want is not to be migrated, but to keep both accounts.

So, now what you need to do is go to our system administrators and get unmigrated. In other words, get your ECT account back.

You will have to actually go to the system administratorss to do this. They are in OCNL 249. Knock on the door (hard, it is a big big door). You will talk to Elbert. They are very friendly and will be glad to help you.

Tell them that your account has been migrated and you want an ECT account

In the meantime, this means that you might have to wait a bit for your ECT account. You can still go ahead on your wildcat account and do the first lab. The only difference (for now) is that

  1. you will need to log on to unix.csuchico.edu rather than ect-unix.ecst.csuchico.edu
  2. the web site address for your lab1 will be at http://web.csuchico.edu/~your_wildcat_login rather than at http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~your_ECT_login until you have your account.

You can still do lab 1.
