Setting up an ECST account
All of the homework and lab assignments for my courses, when they involve coding, must be
turned in individually and sometimes on an ECST account. No one may share an account with others.
Obtain an ECT Unix account (often called
an ECST account, or a pine email account) in the following manner (Off-site (distance) students, see this page .):
- Obtaining ECC Accounts:
Go to http://accounts.ecst.csuchico.edu and click on the 'Create a new account' link to set up your UNIX account.
- The account can take up to 24 hours to activate so be sure to do this TODAY.
- All students who are declared majors of the College of Engineering,
Computer Science, and Technology (ECT), or who are enrolled in an
ECT course, are eligible to maintain an ECT Unix account.
- If you do not currently have an ECT Unix account, or are not sure if
you do, then go to O'Connell 249.
- If you have problems setting up your account, see the technicians in
OCNL 249.
- The accounts set up in the library are wildcat accounts - for
this class you need an ECT account.
If you continue to have problems obtaining an account, see the system
administrators in OCNL 249. I cannot help you until you have the account.
Note:
ECST, ECT and ECC are all the same. I used all three here so I could make this note! They represent the college in which Computer Science is held.
It was initially called the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology (ECST),
but then was told it could only have three letters so it was shortened to ECT.
This is why the machine domain name is ecst.csuchico.edu and the default server name is
ect-unix@ecst.csuchico.edu
Recently, Construction Management felt it should be in on the name, so the College title was changed to
College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management (ECC)
