Day 1 Home Machine Set Up
CSCI 111


  1. To download the JDK from SUN ( software source )

  2. To download the Eclipse ( software source)

              eclipse plugin (need this to have Eclipse the same as on campus)
             Available from your Vista account as well (with directions on where to put it).

  3. Download files for Java, Eclipse, PuTTY and WinSCP ( software sources)

  4. To extract Eclipse from the .zip file

  5. Click on .exe files for Java and WinSCP to run the installers; puTTY is ready to go once downloaded.

  6. Firefox has shown to be the better browser for looking at the class notes from Vista (Internet Explorer jumbles the code together).
    You can download Firefox free as well.

You can, of course, make shortcuts to these on your desktop for easy access.
