This is my old web page, for the latest version go HERE

My name is

Andy Palmer

and I'm a Graduate Mechanical Engineering student (for just a little longer because soon I'm going to be done(well actually I am done)) .

This might be the last edition of this web page because the school dosn't typically let you stick around on their hard drive if your not paying tuition.(truth is this will never go away, they just shelve you on some big server)

First off here are some pictures of the most important things in my life.

All of us: Kelli, cats, 20 broken bicycle wheels, etc. have all moved to Seattle.

The best new thing I have is this picture from collegiate nationals. At this point I was leading the race and I eventually got fourth. The other two guys hanging from my wheel? got First and Second.

I have lots of other pictures in a seperate index.

Some other web pages I maintain(ed) are for the nationally ranked Chico Cycling Team , and Chico's highly sucessfull HPV (Human Powered Vechicle)

My Masters Thesis is getting near completion and has evolved into quite a beast. My original intent was to model an ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator) using FlowPLUS, a COSMOS/M related CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code. Well that code didn't do quite what I wanted so I tried FLOW_3D, a good CFD code but still didn't fit my needs. Finally I went with Compact2D and at this writing it seems as if it will work. So now my thesis is two parts, 1) a comparison of three CFD codes and how accurate/friendly they are and 2)An ESP model to solve for the complex electrical/fluid interactions inside a precipitatior using a combined finite difference/finite element approach. I hope to have a complete summary of my thesis online in the near future. For now to find more about CFD go here Computational Fluid Dynamics

FUN STUFF

This pict. would be more appropiate if it said Footbag, but I like it anyway (courtesy of Mike Cusick)

When I'm not riding my bike you can find me in my backyard kicking the footbag. You can't call it a Hackey Sack because I cant't find the copyright symbol on the keyboard and WHAMO dosn't deserve that much credit. My current consecutive record was set mon.(3/11) and now stands at 1717. That is now less then 50,000 short of the world record.

Here are some Footbag places, with more to come later
