The CSUC ASME had a business meeting
on February 6th. The topic of discussion was upcoming events, including field
trips, the faculty roast, EIT exam, HPV Challenge, and Regional Student Conference.
The month of February was a busy one. Our chapter organized field trips to
Aero Union and FAFCO. Both went successfully in that we were able to get a
glimpse of mechanical engineering work in our area. Outside Chico, some members
took part in regional ASME events: the Distinguished Lecturer at UC Davis
and “A Day at the Capitol” in Sacramento.
Additionally, several ASME members banded together (as is our duty) to plan
and execute the spoofs for the annual ME, M, and M Awards Banquet and Faculty
Roast. Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients, and our sincerest
apologies to the faculty we embarrassed.
Looking ahead, the HPV Challenge and RSC will both take place over the weekend
of April 25th-27th in Davis. Information about the events has been updated
on the ASME Region IX webpage, which is linked from our student chapter webpage.
Please note the regional “Evening with Industry” will be rescheduled
for next semester in order for our chapter to set up a weekend field trip
to Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
Construction on Miss Mocha is quickly coming to an end. The frame, which weighs
less than 15 pounds (not including components) is fully functional and has
attained 29 mph in a speed test. Slight modifications to the drive train are
being made to improve efficiency. The new process of creating the fairing
from foam molds milled in the CNC lab proved to be a worthwhile endeavor.
Not only did it save time, but the contour and symmetry of the new fairing
are superior to last year’s. After some detailing, it will be attached
to the frame and we will be able to do some final test-driving before the
competition.
