The American Foundry Society is an organization which provides and promotes knowledge and services that strengthen the metal casting industry. The Society was founded in 1896 and has grown to an international organization of approximately 13,000 members in 47 countries. It has 52 local chapters and 33 student chapters in the United States, Canada and Mexico. More information can be obtained on the American Foundry Society website.
The purpose of the chapter is both social and educational. For example, in spring 2003 students in the chapter built 20 third scale model Napoleon field cannons.
A second organization, the Foundry Education Foundation (FEF), provides our students with exposure to metal casting by providing scholarships and travel for students to the FEF College-Industry Conference in Chicago each year. Our program is one of 32 programs accredited by the Foundry Education Foundation and Professor Rummell is a FEF "Key Professor". More information is available on the Foundry Education Foundation website.
