Qualifications: a Master of Science degree or a Ph.D. in engineering with particular focus in the area of pavements. Extensive experience in the management and maintenance of asphalt concrete and/or Portland cement concrete pavement structures. It is expected that there will be one hire, one of the two major pavement surfaces. Field experience, computer modeling skills, and major initial design and reconstruction relating to pavements is essential and must be extensive. The candidate should have an established reputation as a credible, responsible pavements engineer. Excellent oral/written communication, technical skills and presentation ability; strong experience in customer service; experience in program development and strategic planning; ability to manage change, supervise multiple projects and handle difficult situations in a complex climate is required. A clear understanding of the pavement construction and materials industry is also required, with knowledge of asphalt pavements.
Position: The candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a major phase of the exciting and new California Pavement Preservation Center at California State University, Chico. The work will involve providing expert consulting services and technology transfer to universities, industry, local agencies, state highway departments, and federal agencies. Seminars, courses, and workshops must be organized and presented on the subject of pavement preservation. Laboratory and field testing programs will be designed and supervised to evaluate innovative pavement preservation products. The successful candidate will likely hold and adjunct faculty position in The Civil Engineering Department at California State University, Chico. Work will include supervising undergraduate and graduate students working on pavement research and solving practical pavement preservation problems. Working closely with a technical advisory group, while participating on technical panels and committees both in California and possibly nationally, is expected. The successful candidate will assist the center director in marketing the California Pavement Preservation Center.
