The Civil Engineering program at CSU, Chico is fully accreditated by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET is the primary accrediting body for engineering programs worldwide.
Every program accredited by ABET is subjected to a comprehensive and rigorous review at least every six years. ABET made the following observations during the most recent review of the engineering programs at CSU, Chico.
The residential character of the university allows the students substantive access to university faculty and facilities on a basis that is not attainable in an urban commuter environment.
The faculty and students of the college work in close association with one another.
The engineering programs have a long tradition of emphasizing hands-on experience in the engineering design component of the curricula.
The college has managed to preserve the integrity of instructional facilities used for engineering programs despite significant reductions in state funding and in space allocations.
The program faculty is closely networked with local and regional practitioners, and is active in ASCE and other professional societies. An effective Professional Advisory Board provides significant input.
The program has a long-standing reputation for its hands-on, laboratory-intensive, practice-oriented philosophy. As a result, its graduates are prominent in the regional engineering community and highly sought after by employers.
There appears to be close rapport between students and faculty.
The ASCE student chapter is vigorous and highly motivated.
