CE Outstanding Alumnus 2008Top of Page

David Lagerlef graduated from California State University, Chico in 1979.  He began his career in the oil industry as a Project Engineer working for Atlantic Richfield on civil engineering projects related to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska.  After a short leave of absence to work on a Masters in Business Administration degree at the University of Montana, Missoula he returned to work in Anchorage completing the degree at University of Alaska, Anchorage in 1988. Since that time he has worked various production engineering related jobs including drill site engineering, production optimization, and artificial lift consulting for the Prudhoe Bay, Alpine, and Kuparuk oil fields rounding out over 27 years of experience.  David currently works at the Kuparuk Alaska oil field as an Artificial Lift Engineer.

David has authored or co-authored seven technical papers for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and has been active in the local Alaska SPE section serving in various top leadership positions.  He has also been active in various international committees for SPE, including a technical editor for the Journal of Petroleum Technology.

David and his wife home schooled both daughters for 8 years and will be celebrating 20 years of marriage this summer.  David has been active in leadership for many Christian groups over the last 15 years.  He is a Licensed Lay Minister in the Free Methodist denomination and participates in leading non-denominational Christian church services at the Kuparuk camp where he lives when on location in Alaska.

Almost four years ago, David and his family moved from Eagle River, Alaska to Silver Spring, Maryland so his oldest daughter Stephanie could attend a prestigious ballet school in the Washington D. C. area.  Although the commute between Silver Spring and Kuparuk every two weeks takes time, David is able to sleep on airplanes and enjoys reading and meeting new people.

Previous outstanding alumni, listed with year of graduation, are Ed Anderson (1963), Harold Welborn (1966), Sam Johnson (1971), Gary Watters (1957), Jim Lai (1963), Dennis Murphy (1994), Bob Pillsbury (1957), Conrad Bridges (1962), Julie Forsythe (1991), and Rory Rottschalk (1976)

Donations to the Civil Engineering ProgramTop of Page

The Civil Engineering program is fortunate to have many friends who help the department to maintain academic quality despite continuing reductions in state funding. One of the most common ways of helping is through donations to the department. Each year, the department chair distributes a message to friends of CE requesting consideration in future charitable giving and thanking those who have donated previously.
