In this exercise, one student from each group is assigned (just for this exercise) to another group. Prior to class make enough copies of the Individual Turnover scenario sheets so one person from each project group gets a copy. Make enough copies of the Group Turnover scenario sheets for everyone else in the class. The students will work through the turnover exercises in their existing project groups.
Pick one member from each group to be assigned to another group. The exercise will have the most impact if you pick the student with the most critical technical role. Usually a group is quick to identify their most critical student. Give each of these students the Individual Turnover scenario and assign them to another group.
Hand out the Group Turnover scenario sheets to the remaining members of each project group. Allow the students to meet for about 30 minutes to develop a new plan that takes the turnover into account.
Once students lose interest in developing their plan, pass out the turnover follow-up questions. Have students answer the questions as a group. Then lead a class discussion by asking students to share their new project development plans and discuss their answers to the follow-up questions.
