Course Description: This is an intermediate level UNIX class. During the first part of the course, UNIX users will learn to use (or brush up on their facility with) power utilities such as sed, grep, awk, find, cut, paste, and join as preparation for creating shell scripts. Shell programming in the latter part of the course will focus primarily on the Bourne shell; however, some of the special features of C-shell and Korn shell scripts will be covered. 2.0 hours discussion, 2.0 hours activity.

Grades

No late assignments will be accepted.
There will be between 7 and 15 lab assignments plus possibly extra-credit lab assignments
Each lab assignment will be worth between 5 and 20 points.
A lab grade will be determined from the lab assignments at the end of the semester
Attendance will affect your grade as some labs will be done during lab time and there will most likely not be an opportunity to make them up later.
Information will be provided during lab time that is not covered in the book. Without this additional material it may not be possible to complete some labs.

Groups

None of the labs (unless otherwise stated) should be done in groups.
All work should be done independently.
